Imogen Stidworthy Wins The Liverpool Art Prize 2008
The Singh Twins Win The People’s Choice Prize
Congratulations to Imogen Stidworthy on winning the £2000 Liverpool Art Prize 2008 and to Amrit and Rabindra Singh for being the People’s Choice winners worth £500.
What an exciting time its been for us at artinliverpool.com, we’ve seen so many of these things from a distance but its a whole different thing being in the thick of it.
You may recall we started the ball rolling nearly a year ago when we were encouraging people to nominate local artists for the Turner Prize as it was coming to Liverpool in 2007. So many good local artists were nominated that we decided it would be a good idea to have our own prize.
We are really proud and delighted with the result, its a really good exhibition and an excellent venue at the Contemporary Urban Centre in Greenland Street.
The judges met at 14.00 today to decide the winner, I sat in on the session but didn’t vote myself. It was a good debate as all the judges were very impressed with all the work.
For the People’s Choice, we were very pleased that a total of 441 votes were cast in only 10 days. It was actually quite a close result with the Singh Twins just edging ahead of the rest.
I have to admit I enjoyed myself being on the stage with the mic thanking all the sponsors and announcing the winners. I was nervous but it was a real buzz.
The result has already been announced on Radio Merseyside and it should be in tomorrow’s papers. Now we are planning for next year.
The Liverpool Art Prize exhibition runs at the Contemporary Urban Centre until May 7 2008.
