Il Trovatore Opera in St Helens – Wednesday

UPDATE: This show has been cancelled.

IL TROVATORE
BY GIUSEPPE VERDI

ST HELENS THEATRE ROYAL
WEDNESDAY 27th SEPTEMBER

Set in 16th century Spain, Il Trovatore has more twists and turns than an Agatha Christie murder mystery. Il Trovatore is full of mistaken identity, jealousy and revenge: babies are supposedly bewitched, whilst singers are imprisoned, swallow poison or are beheaded by their long lost brother. Who said opera was boring?

Apart from all that, Il Trovatore is one of Verdi’s finest musical achievements. Once heard, who could ever forget the famous Anvil Chorus, the tenor’s thrilling Di quella pira and the beautiful Miserere. The countless breathtaking arias, duets and choruses will take you to the heart of this passionate tale and leave an everlasting impression.

The cast features the brilliant Georgian tenor Irakli Grigali (making his debut in St Helens) as Manrico, as well as soprano Sarah Estill (acclaimed for her recent performances in Tosca) as Leonora. It also includes the talented children from the Elizabeth Hill School of Dance and Drama in St Helens who will join Opus 1 Opera for the performance.
