Horse + Bamboo are hiring a Maker/ Performer

Deadline: Sunday 13 March 2016.

Horse + Bamboo are a visual theatre company with a reputation for creating exceptional work for adults and families incorporating masks, puppetry, music, and animation. Our home is at the Boo, our lovely venue in Waterfoot, Lancashire, where we present a regular programme of puppetry, music and film for our local audience. We also run an important outreach programme, engaging with local people of South Asian heritage, families with babies and toddlers and young people. Our work has a very handmade aesthetic, and is created by a small team led by joint Artistic Directors Bob Frith and Alison Duddle.

The time has come to expand our core team, and we are looking for a very special sort of artist to work with us. We are looking for someone who is just as happy in the workshop making a puppet or two as running a workshop with young people or performing a small show to babies and their parents. We are looking for a team player, someone who wants to immerse themselves in the aesthetics and interests of our company but who will also bring their own set of passions, skills and artistic approach, and is interested in forming a long term relationship with the company and its locality.

There are a couple of current projects that we are hoping our new artist will play a major part in – Baby Boo: a series of small shows, larger installations and regular creative play sessions for early years children and their parents in Rossendale, and our emerging Puppetry Youth Theatre – as well as being a creative force within the company, assisting with events at the Boo, our venue in Rossendale, and helping to develop puppets and masks for our touring work.

We are not looking for someone with specific academic qualifications, but passion, commitment and energy and a love of puppetry, animation or visual theatre are very important, as well as an interest in working with young audiences. Because touring locally will be a part of this post, we are ideally seeking someone who can drive and is confident touring solo.

This will be a 4 day per week post, and flexible working hours will be essential.

Salary £8.25 per hour (16,087.50 pro rata (£12,870 p.a.))

To apply for this post, we would like you initially to send a covering letter telling us about yourself and why you are interested in this position, as well as photos of your work (if applicable) and a general CV. Send to alison@horseandbamboo.org

Deadline for applications Sun 13th March. The start date is flexible, but ideally early April.
