Halloween Lantern Carnival – Sefton Park, 30 Oct 2011

SUNDAY 30 October 2011 17.30

HUNGRY ghosts of all shapes and sizes will be rampaging through Sefton Park on October 30 as part of Liverpool’s ever-popular Halloween Lantern Carnival.

Produced by the Liverpool Lantern Company, the event will see over 150 weird and wonderful performers descend on the park, as delirious ghosts and wondrous creatures emerge from the darkness, attracted by the light of hundreds of beautiful community-made lanterns to seek food and drink, warmth, love and friendship from the mortal world.

Giant illuminated stones covered with mysterious markings will move of their own accord through the park, pulled by magnetic astrological forces and audiences will witness bizarre, unimaginable and downright ludicrous rituals, as winged creatures bat through the trees and hermits levitate teacups whilst balancing on one leg.

Runic dancers, choral chanting, conspiracy theorists and newsflash reporters will move through the crowds as a magical offering of lanterns draws the ancient circle of the Sefton Stones together, opening a fiery portal to the cosmos, with live music and a firework finale adding extra sparkle to this magical occasion.

The festival has been running in Sefton Park, Liverpool since 2004 and has grown to become one of Liverpool’s most interesting and creative events.  In 2010, 2000 people joined the procession with an estimated audience of 15,000. This year, the Liverpool lantern Company have been running lantern making workshops with over 800 participants from established community groups and open sessions for families to create lanterns for the processions.  A team of over 100 international, national  and local artists, musicians professional performers and 150 student performers have worked together to create the spellbinding event

Processions start at 5.30pm from Aigburth Vale by the boating lake and Livingston Drive North entrances to the Park.
