Give Peace a Chance Bed In at Albert Dock

Another picture of us in bed – the second this week. This was in the ‘What’s Cooking’ restaurant at the Albert Dock today where the good folks from Purple Revolver organised a fab4peace bed-in to mark the 40th anniversary of John & Yoko’s honeymoon bed-in for world peace.

There were quite a few similar events around the world. This one is helping to raise funds and awareness of the Imagine appeal for Alder Hey children’s hospital so well done to all involved (including John Lewis for the loan of a very comfy bed, I didn’t want to leave)

It was 40 years ago today… The Ballad of John and Yoko declared their love to the world and told how they ‘got married in Gibraltar near Spain, honeymooned down by the Seine’ and then ‘travelled to the Amsterdam Hilton where we stayed in our beds for a week… Man, we only wanted to get us some peace.’

John and Yoko were masters of media manipulation and invited the world to witness their week-long honeymoon – a Bed In for world peace in the Presidential Suite, room 902 of the Amsterdam Hilton.

The press invaded their cosy cuddle session in droves expecting the infamous nudists to make love in front of their cameras. Their white wedding celebrations became unadulterated performance art, laced with protest against the Vietnam war.

John explained that they were trying to sell the idea of peace to the world by asking people to grow their hair and stay in bed.
