Filmmaker Julian Cole first met Gilbert & George when he modelled for them in 1986. His intimate and moving portrait, filmed over 17 years, reveals for the first time the individuals behind the living sculptures. The film traces their lives from their humble beginnings to the artistic world stage, where they have performed their enigmatic and controversial double act for four decades.
They have mounted more exhibitions around the world than any other living artist, and here their motto ‘Art for All’ is assessed through their groundbreaking shows in Russia, China and beyond, revealing how their art can transcend cultural barriers.
