FACT: The Art of Pop Video

14 March – 26 May 2013

Opening on March 14, The Art of Pop Video takes in nearly 80 years of film clips created to promote classic and cutting edge pop songs.

Showcasing the music video as an artistic medium in its own right, the exhibition follows its history from the very beginnings in the 1920s to its most contemporary manifestations.

The exhibition celebrates the variety of the medium and invites visitors to become acquainted with its filmic predecessors and take a peek at the future.

Artists featured include Björk, Michael Jackson, Pet Shop Boys, Fred Astaire, Man Ray, Madonna, Daft Punk, Lady Gaga and Radiohead.
To highlight the shift towards more lo-fi methods of filmmaking, The Art of Pop Video includes a video made especially for the exhibition – a new video from acclaimed Liverpool band Outfit by Manchester-based Isaac Eastgate who won an open call competition from FACT and Liverpool Sound City.
