Dir Aleksandra Domanović / Serbia / 2013
An allegory for wider social and political turmoil in Europe, Domanović focuses on the story of the top-level Internet domain for Yugoslavia, .yu and the two female scientists Borka Jerman Blažič and Mirjana Tasić who administered it. The domain was first registered in 1989, and was only abolished in 2010 – long after Yugoslavia’s dissolution. It is now archived in the Museum of Yugoslav History, making it their first virtual artifact. This artists’ short film is a meditation on technology and digital-borne content, presented against the backdrop of socialism’s collapse in Eastern Europe and the rise in popularity of the Internet.
The screening will be followed by an artists talk with pinoreering female scientists Borka Jerman Blažič and Mirjana Tasić, who feature in the film
