‘On the 12th Year of Christmas, my true love sent to me, 17 Oxton Artists and a Partridge in a Pear Tree.’
The gift buying season is upon us and what nicer way to dodge the Liverpool One rush, than to peruse the independent and unique, at the 12th Oxton Art Fair. Seventeen local professional, contemporary artists, including established members, new members and guests, will showcase a diverse mix of quality arts and crafts across three rooms of the Williamson Art Gallery, Birkenhead.
This year’s visitors to one of Wirral’s most established art events can expect to see large canvas landscapes and townscapes, delicate hand-crafted jewellery, intricate textiles, 3D embroidery and mixed media, along with printmakers, painters, photography and a potter. All our artists exhibit regularly in the North West, some nationally and a few internationally. One thing the Oxton Artists have in common is their work is all individually crafted, meaning there is something to please everyone, across the board.
This year’s event will be opened by children’s author Cathy Cassidy, who has recently been nominated for the prestigious Carnegie Medal, 2016.
Oxton Art Fair is a perfect chance to support your local artists and community alike, or simply come along, enjoy the day and chat to our friendly artists about their work.
Comments: Wirral cultural ambassador, Mike McGear-McCartney, who opened the event in 2013, called it; “a joyous event NOT to be missed”.
Julian Treuherz, writer and former keeper of art galleries National Museums Liverpool, who opened the fair last year, said: “If last year’s Oxton Art Fair was anything to go by, the 2015 event will be a great place to see the wonderful work being done by local artists and makers. It is an event not to be missed, and a good place to find unusual presents.”
