Cegin y Capel: The Chapel Kitchen
3rd Jun 2018 – 1:00pm – 2:00pm – book here
Building on the performance Cartref presented at last year’s Festival of Ideas, Cegin y capel documents a short series of performance interventions located in chapel kitchens in Liverpool and North Wales. Set in 1929 when foundations for the resurgence of Welsh National Identity were being laid, Cartref explores Wales’ most influential community, the Liverpool Welsh, by foregrounding the hidden histories of their women.
Using this performance work as its focal point, Theatr Gadair Ddu will be hosting a series of community cooking events where participants will be encouraged to work together in the local chapel kitchen to prepare a celebratory tea party. Accompanied by an exhibition of artefacts from the Liverpool Welsh community, each Cegin y capel event is designed to facilitate a sharing of community and individual narratives. This installation will collate aspects of this ‘tour’.
