Intro to Green Wood: Pole Lathe Turning & Stool Making
£125
Make your own stool while learning to use a pole lathe! Join green wood craftsman Keith Matthews in this day-long course at Make North Docks, during which you’ll learn how to use a pole lathe and use all the complimentary hand tools needed to create your own stool.
The pole-lathe is a centuries old device, powered by the leg, the foot treadle is returned by the action of a spring pole. Wood is shaped with axes and drawknives, then placed onto the lathe to be shaped by a selection of turning tools. The aim of the day is to create stool legs (either formally turned or rustic shaped), and turned pieces. The final step is to assemble the stool.
This class is accessible for beginners or a perfect compliment to our other Intro to Greenwood Carving Courses.
This class is a long day of intense woodworking. It is not suitable for anyone with issues with fatigue or repetitive muscle movements. If you have any questions about whether or not you’ll be able to participate in the class, call Make and we will direct your questions to the practitioner: 0151 601 8665.
