Emerging artists in LJMU Degree Show 2017

Liverpool John Moores University’s School of Art and Design will be showcasing its graduates work from Friday 26 May, in its end of year Degree Show.

From Friday 26 May to Friday 9 June (excluding Sundays and Bank Holiday Monday), the public are invited to the free exhibition to explore a showcase of graduating LJMU students’ work in Architecture, Fashion, Fine Art, Graphic Design and Illustration.

A renowned highlight in the city’s creative arts calendar, visitors to the Degree Show can expect public performance, challenging art forms, cutting-edge creative design, innovative public realm and building projects, beautiful photography and breath-taking fashion collections.

There are also several artworks connected to the city of Liverpool, including North Docks, a 360˚ film produced by student Bryn Walden-Jones which explores how the industrial North Dockland area of Liverpool, like many industrial areas, has become home to a variety of nightlife cultures. The film puts the viewer in a virtual reality space, surrounded by four video screens to enhance the experience of changing environments.

A collaborative project between Graphic Design student, Jess Lord, and Illustration student, Dylan Fox, involved researching the history and life of the inhabitants of significant buildings within the city, with the outcomes focusing directly on the architectural and decorative details of the buildings, creating new patterns from the existing shapes.

Another project with a local influence is student Chelsea Massey’s rebranding of Toxteth Town Hall, which is based on an emblem on the wall of the main hall. It uses a stamp system to solve the issue of cost and can be easily applied to many different mediums. Stickers and badges have also been created so they can be easily applied to items including clothing and stationery.

Student Hannah McNichols also carried out another rebranding exercise for the Baltic Triangle, based on coordinates due to the history and the importance of knowing the location due to parts still being a development area.

The Degree Show is being held at the University’s John Lennon Art and Design Building, Duckinfield Street, off Brownlow Hill. For detailed opening times go to www.ljmu.ac.uk
