All the Fun of the Fair
Dates: 1 – 31 August, 2018
Location: 5 Bold Place, Liverpool, L1 9DN
Alison Little’s installation All the Fun of the Fair takes over 5 Bold Place for the month of August as part of Art In Windows’ on-going Biennial Independents series.
Little developed All the Fun of the Fair out of her novel Casual Nexus, in which she tells the story of a young student who is raped during a summer placement in the USA. The installation centres around a suspended, human-sized lobster filled with statements about sexual violence. Scattered below the giant lobster, which references the food stalls common in New England seaside towns, lie broken beach toys and cheap, discarded trinkets. This is the detritus and devastation that often remains once the holiday fun is over and in it we see mirrored the danger of physical and psychological damage lurking behind superficially happy times.
