TUESDAY 15 March 2011 at METAL at Edge Hill Station. 18.30 – 20.30. Strike for Liberty! The Remarkable Story of the 1911 Liverpool Transport Strike. To commemorate the centenary of the 1911 Liverpool Transport Strike, METAL at Edge Hill station will be hosting a discussion and excerpts from a new theatrical production “Rid the World” by Rob Johnston about the strike’s leader Tom Mann.
‘Strike for Liberty! The Remarkable Story of the 1911 Transport Strike’ will discuss the strike and the events surrounding it, led by local historians Ray Physick and Dr Paul Salveson OBE who will give a brief talk on trade unions and socialism in the North West. Ray and Paul will be joined by ‘Rid the World’s’ director Ed Barrett and the writer Rob Johnston for an audience discussion.
This promises to be a very interesting evening inviting debate about workers’ rights and collective power which is still highly relevant today. The evening will end with a homemade bowl of Scouse.
The play “Rid the World” by Rob Johnston will be on at The Unity Theatre, Liverpool on the 17th, 18th and 19th of March.
