EVENT: Ekapa Fundraiser at Bluecoat Display Centre

WEDNESDAY 6 July 2011, 17.30 – 20.00 in the Bluecoat Garden. ‘Ekapa Fundraiser’ Sale and auction of South African crafts.

The Bluecoat Display Centre (BDC) will be staging an exhibition ‘ekapa’ featuring 13 contemporary jewellers from Cape Town, South Africa. which will be presented at the Display Centre from 10th September till 22nd October this year.

To compliment ‘ekapa’ there will be an ‘In the Window’ exhibition featuring art created under the Cape Town based urban initiative Streetwìres, which specialises in original, handcrafted African beaded wire work.

As part of the exhibitions the BDC are working with Liverpool based South African born curator Linda Jeanne Jones together with Liverpool Hope University to offer a 6 week residency opportunity for a South African jeweller.

The BDC are holding a South African themed fundraising event on Wednesday 6th July, from which will include South African food and wine, music by the Sense of Sound Choir and a sale of the ‘street craft’ from Cape Town artists. The highlight of the fundraiser will be an auction, by Adam Partridge, of the more unique traditional South African crafts.

This event is to be held in the Bluecoat Garden in Liverpool City Centre. The items to be auctioned include the most innovative and creative selection of basketry, ceramics, beaded wirework, paper mache, textiles and recycled metalwork being made by Cape Town based street artists. Money raised will help fund the jeweller’s residency, which takes place between mid October and November this year.
