Erotic Art Exhibition
at The Gallery Liverpool
28 January – 11 February 2011
According to Wikipedia “Erotic art covers any artistic work that is intended to evoke erotic arousal or that depicts scenes of love-making. It includes paintings, engravings, drawings, sculptures, photographs, music and writing.”
Well, there’s certainly plenty of that here though whether it’s arousing or not is down to personal taste I suppose. For me the images and sculptures of women in chains are annoying but the rest is ok. In fact quite a few of the drawings and watercolours are really good life studies. There’s a lot to see, the artists are local, national and international and it’s proving to be another very popular exhibition for the Gallery.
Birgit Deubner’s series of large photographs ‘Chorus / In Vain I Will Away’ which she showed for the 2010 Goldsmiths MFA Show are excellent and striking. Many of the other photographs are unsurprising pictures of naked people – all too familiar.
I’m glad to see a sense of fun in the show, some amusing ornaments and a ‘dick du phone’! I enjoyed Bestie’s cartoons and Peter Cameron’s humorous pastels most I think.
