Editions – Liverpool Printmakers Make Good

imageLiverpool Printmakers Make Good. Exhibition 7 November – 6 December 2008
Monoprints, silkscreen prints, wood engravings and etchings by three prominent UK based printmakers.

Artists: Anne Desmet, Neil Morris, Sean Rorke

This unusual exhibition features works new to Liverpool by printmakers Anne Desmet, Neil Morris and Sean Rorke.

The artists have more in common than a medium. Each is connected to Liverpool through their pasts. Now they work successfully within the print sector as teachers, promoters and makers and each has become responsible for jumpstarting new projects and debate worldwide.

About the artists:

Neil Morris is the Reader in Contemporary Printmaking at Liverpool John Moores University, also a co-founder of the city’s artists’ exchange programme Eight Days A Week.

Sean Rorke is the Development Manager at Hot Bed Press in nearby Salford.

Anne Desmet edits Printmaking Today. She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers and a Member of the Society of Wood Engravers.

They teach, programme, write, publish and exhibit internationally: their inky fingers in an impressively wide range of pies. But Desmet, Morris and Rorke were born in Liverpool. Now there’s a happy coincidence.

About the work:

Anne Desmet’s subtle and precise architectural wood engravings nudge up against Neil Morris’s autobiographical iconography in frank monotypes and silkscreen prints. Whilst on a neighbouring wall Sean Rorke’s abstract and colourful photo-etchings of graffiti sites clamour for your attention.

Each print is technically excellent and inventive and together they demonstrate an extraordinary breadth in terms of approach and content.
