The Merseyside derby is set to for a Premiership first this weekend.
Toffees striker James Beattie and Reds captain Steven Gerrard will make history as the first players in the English game to have their numbers specially altered for a professional match when the Mersey rivals meet at Anfield on Saturday.
The two number 8’s have been given special permission by the FA Premier League to wear ’08’ on their match shirts to promote the new 08 Ambassadors Programme.
Everton and Liverpool FC have joined forces for this unique one-off at the 203rd Merseyside derby to show their support for the city and its role as European Capital of Culture in 2008.
After the match the two shirts will be presented to the Liverpool Culture Company so they can be framed and auctioned for charity.
The 08 Ambassadors programme has been created to enable people who love Liverpool to spread the word about the city and its role as European Capital of Culture 2008.
