¡DEMOLITION! – an exhibition of artwork designed to be destroyed.
Mercy asked eighteen international artists – considering destruction in all its guises against the backdrop of the 2008 Capital of Culture regeneration programme – to present artwork that, by the end of the exhibition [in some cases by the end of the opening night], will be irreparably transformed from their original state.
Some of the pieces will depend on the participation of gallery visitors, in other cases the artworks themselves will play out a process of gradual destruction.
THE ARTISTS — Katriona Beales, Nathan Burr, Jan Erichsen, Benjamin Fallon, Rosie Farrell, Nicola Fitzsimmons, Jonathan Greenbank, Eugenia Ivanissevich, Tim Jukes, Naomi Kashiwagi, Paul Luckraft, Herve Paraponaris, Ben Parry, Alexander Pearl, Angelo Picozzi, Mark Selby, Lousie Stokes, Arik Visser, David Snoo Wilson
