statement:
My work has varied quite a lot over time, between paintings of wild landscapes, and things such as the altering of food packaging by painting onto the packages and incorporating the existing photographs into the painting.

My work still has this quirky or surreal twist as well as a sort of movement between ‘romance’ and ‘stark reality’ or ‘the absurd and surreal’ next to the ‘everyday or mundane’. The work lies somewhere inbetween Fine Art and Illustration. The images sometimes form sequences of narrative and sometimes become chopped up and fragmented – suggestive of our minds’ tendency to do the same with the world that we see.

There is often a ‘jump’ between the here and now and the absurd, highlighting this scatterbrained tendency in most of us. The contents/ theme of each piece are derived from any (usually quite poetic) interesting sketchbook observations of events or passing moments. However, moments when ‘nothing’ occurs are just as noteworthy as when ‘something’ occurs (it is down to our own perceptions as to what is noteworthy). More simply put, the images depict an interplay between ‘reality’ and fiction – or – of what we see and what we think we see.

news:
I currently have a number of my small book/ ‘comics’ of what could be described as narrative illustration for sale in ‘Polished T’ gallery in Duke Street, Liverpool
exhibitions:
I was commissioned by the Guardian newspaper (see image) in Sept. 2004, to illustrate a short story. Around the same time I organised a group exhibition at Waterstones bookshop, Piccadilly.
I have also exhibited in group shows in London (Alternative Arts), Liverpool (Hanover Galleries), Stoke-on-Trent (218 project), and a solo exhibition at The Blackthorn galleries, Birkenhead
