Liverpool's firework display scheduled for 17.00 on Sunday December 31st has been postponed for safety reasons.
Weather forecasters have predicted gale force winds of up to 80mph on New Year's Eve.
The fireworks, due to be launched from the top of the Walker Art Gallery on Sunday, will now be showcased on 5 January 2007 at 1930 GMT.
Viewing will still take place from St George's Plateau, Lime Street in Liverpool city centre.

I couldn't make it to see this years Santa Dash round downtown Liverpool on December 3 2006 but it seems it was a great success again with more Santas than every joining the 5K race.
Around 5,000 Santas braved the cold and wind (maybe one year they'll be running through snow) to run for charity.
Kev says "Once it was underway we had to endure a blinding sun and howling wind as the route took us along Liverpool’s famous waterfront. It was tough to say the least. A similar route from last year but running with the weather in our faces tested our endurance to the limit."

The original announcement was for the Town Hall but now its changed to Lime St / St Georges Plateau.

New Year's Eve fireworks will launch Liverpool's 800th birthday year and mark the end of 2006, the year of performance.
The viewing area is Lime Street/St George's Plateau.
Festivities start at 5pm and the 20-minute fantastic pyrotechnic son et lumiere display will be set to a soundtrack celebrating music through the decades – from classical to contemporary.
Last years Santa Dash was eventually confirmed as the world record for the 'Most Santas In One Place' with 4,505 people running around the city centre dressed in Santa outfits.
The organisers are naturally hoping to break their own record again this year.
The 5K dash takes place on Sunday December 3 2006. Starting from Castle St at 09.30 and finishing in the same place.
If you don't have the energy to join in its still fun to watch.
The event raises over £100,000 for local charities.

Yes, it looks like Bonfire Night but these fireworks went off as some celebrities switched on the Liverpool City Centre Christmas Lights for 2006.
There was a huge crowd there to see the Leader of Liverpool Council, Warren Bradley or maybe they were there to see the boy band, think it was Eton Road. Ricky Tomlinson also performed his xmas song 'Christmas My Arse' and Neville Skelly crooned.
Somehow I don't think Robyn Archer was involved in commissioning this show, highbrow it ain't but neither is Christmas. Its all about having a good time with tacky, commercial, populist rubbish and that's fine by me (as long as its only once a year).
Even the Notre Dame Gospel Choir didn't sing any hymns, thank goodness, performing the old favourites 'The Snowman' and 'Winter Wonderland'

The spectacular Halloween Lantern Carnival, now an event run annually by Liverpool Lantern Company and partners will take place on Tuesday 31st October 2006 in Sefton Park.
The event will commence at 18.00 with pre-parade performances and sideshows. These will be situated beyond the café towards the lake.
The procession begins at 18.30 from the Obelisk. This year's theme of "The Displaced" views the ideas from both a satirical vantage point to poetic and poignant observations about the displaced inhabitants of Liverpool's many buildings and communities which have been or are currently being demolished.
The event will feature kinetic sculptures, visual installations, spoken word, music and sound, dance, theatre, puppetry and hundreds of community made lanterns as part of the procession.
The event will culminate in a stunning finale creating a celestial city of light with six angelic beings and a sixty strong group of live drummers, fire sculptures and pyrotechnics. A large team of both local and national artists has engaged with colleges, schools and community groups to collaboratively deliver this project.

The Liverpool Culture Company is appealing to the region's organisations to make this year's 20/08 day celebrations the best yet.
Each year on 20 August - 20/08 - groups, organisations, and businesses across the region are encouraged to celebrate Liverpool's Capital of Culture success by making an 'offer' for the day.
20/08 has been a highlight of Liverpool's cultural calendar since 2003, when the National Wildflower Centre decided to provide free entrance on 20 August - 20/08 - to mark Liverpool's Capital of Culture success. The Liverpool Culture Company decided to extend this idea and establish 20/08 as a yearly opportunity to celebrate the rich cultural life of the city.
Last year's offers spanned the complete cultural spectrum - including free judo lessons for children, two-for-one dining, tours of historic buildings, hot air balloon rides and water sports tuition. From sports centres to swish city centre hotels, the whole region came together to give people a taste of Liverpool culture.
Groups, businesses, or organisations interested in putting on a special event or offering discounts on 20/08 this year just need to sign-up online by completing the 20/08 form.
Details of all offers will appear on www.liverpool08.com and in a 20/08 day brochure, which is distributed to venues across the region.
The deadline for offers is Friday 14 July 2006 so act now and help celebrate on 20/08!

This annual extravaganza is in its 34th year and attracts thousands of visitors. It is the first major event that the new Lord Mayor takes part in and is a great opportunity for her to see first-hand how Liverpool can put on a great show.
Spectators can look forward to a visual extravaganza of colour and creativity at this year's event. Floats will follow the theme of ‘performance’ to tie in with Liverpool's fourth themed year in the run-up to European Capital of Culture 2008. Simply Red - first act announced for Liverpool Summer Pops
Big top appearance on 18 July followed by Il Divo gig on July 21
Tickets go on sale Monday, February 20
The big top experience returns for 2006 bigger and better than ever as one of the most important events of the European Summer music calendar.
And organisers have launched the 06 programme by making a double announcement - with chart sensations Il Divo to make their Summer Pops debut three days later.
Simply Red are without doubt a truly great British act. This year sees Mick Hucknall and co celebrate twenty one years of hits and this show is a great chance to hear classic tracks from one of this country's most consistently successful groups.
Since 1985's debut single Money's Too Tight To Mention reached the UK top twenty, Simply Red have enjoyed over twenty years of hits from their 1986 US number one Holding Back The Years to their classic cover of Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes' If You Don't Know Me By Now. 1991's huge Stars album saw Simply Red selling millions and in 1995 they celebrated their first UK number one with the wonderful Fairground.
The dramatic rise of Il Divo has been breathtaking in its speed and ground breaking in its success over the last 18 months, bringing opera to the mainstream, thrilling the world in the process.
