Summer Pops Starts Today and I have not got a ticket for any of the concerts. That's mainly because I didn't fancy any of them. Maybe many, many years ago I might have gone to see The Who or New Order or even Pet Shop Boys but not now. I know these gigs are popular but to me its all so old and tired.
What with this and the Beatles / Mathew Street Festival being the public face of the Liverpool Music Scene it just gives an image of us all living in the past.
Please can we have a major music festival featuring new (or at least current) bands?
So the pops kicks off with Jools Holland tonight to be followed by Australian Pink Floyd Show then Oscar Peterson

I was fortunate this morning to be able to be one of the first people to buy a signed copy of the limited edition book by Mike McCartney. The launch of 'LIVE8 coolpix' took place at the World Museum Liverpool today and the books should be available now from the 08 Place in Whitechapel.
LIVE8 coolpix is a behind-the-scenes photo diary of the historic Hyde Park concert, captured by photographer Mike McCartney.
The book contains a series of candid shots of performers and celebrities as they mingle in the exclusive 'golden areas' at the biggest music event of 2005. As a guest of his brother Sir Paul McCartney, and show organiser and founder Bob Geldof, Mike was able to gain access to areas closed to the majority of press and official photographers.
Only 1,000 special limited edition copies of LIVE8 will be published, with the profits going directly to the Live Aid Trust. The book is being published by Wirral based firm Cities500 International Publishers, who also published Mike's earlier photographic anthology: Mike McCartney's Liverpool Life. Cities500 are currently in negotiations with online auction site ebay with a view to auctioning copies of the book.
LIVE8 coolpix has been endorsed by both the event's creator Bob Geldof, and Sir Paul McCartney, both of whom have written personal forewords. Sir Paul says: "Live8 was one of the greatest days of the year, possibly the decade. Bob Geldof telephoned me, explained the idea of Making Poverty History and aiming the concert at the G8 conference. I was sold. Bob's a great salesman.
"Luckily, my brother Mike was there with his trusty camera to record the day and capture many of the exciting backstage happenings. This book is made from a selection of those pictures and he and I are proud to have been there together and to have been a part of this momentous event."
Mike McCartney said: "LIVE8 began as a nice family day out in Hyde Park, London, but when you find yourself backstage at the Greatest Show on Earth, and bump into Brad Pitt, Madonna, George Michael, U2, Annie Lennox, Bill Gates, the Beckhams, Kofi Annan, Paris Hilton, Robbie Williams, Snoop Dog, Peter Kay, Pink Floyd, etc, it would be rude NOT to take their photo!
"It was a unique day with the bottom line of everyone trying to prevent starvation round the world. To that end, my publisher Guy and I have produced 1,000 limited edition, hard back books of the great day, with great forewords by my brother Paul and Bob (Geldof), and are donating all profits to raise money for the Band Aid Trust. If all of them sell, we will raise tens of thousands of pounds towards making African and world poverty...history. Please buy one! Thank U Very Much"
Tall Ships sail into Liverpool for a weekend of maritime fun
Programme of street theatre and entertainment
Saturday/Sunday 1 & 2 July 2006 , 11am - 5pm, free entrance
Liverpool is offering a nautical alternative to the World Cup this weekend.
For those not wanting to spend Saturday and Sunday afternoon sitting in front of the box, a fleet of Tall Ships arrives in the city this weekend for a two day visit.
The Liverpool Culture Company has organised the 'All Aboard' weekend as a taster event for 2008, when Liverpool will host the start of the Tall Ships Race.
Councillor Warren Bradley, Leader of Liverpool City Council, said: "There are very few cities in the world with a seafaring history as rich as Liverpool's, and seeing the Tall Ships arrive on the River Mersey is a fantastic sight.
"All Aboard will be a great opportunity for people to have a look around these fascinating ships, and soak up some of the maritime atmosphere down at the docks."
Most of the ships will be based at Wellington and Sandon Docks (off Regent Road), while 'HMS Albion' will be at Canada Dock, and 'Artemis' at the Albert Dock. A free park and ride service, operating every ten minutes, will be on hand to ferry visitors to the docks from the city centre.
Jason Harborow, Chief Executive of Liverpool Culture Company, said: "The start of the Tall Ships Race in 2008 will undoubtedly be one of the highlights of 2008, attracting tens of thousands of spectators.
"We're delighted to welcome some ships to Liverpool this weekend to give just a flavour of what's planned for two year's time."
The Ships arriving this weekend:
In Wellington/Sandon Dock (off Regent Road):
Christian Raddich: A sail training ship. Considered to be Norway's grandest sailing ambassador.
Bessie Ellen: Britain's last wooden coasting ketch still under sail.
Swan Fan Makkum: Designed in the style of a traditional windjammer, this is one of the world's largest brigantine and two-masted ships.
Eye of the Wind: One of the prettiest small tall ships, built in Germany as a gaff-rigged topsail schooner freighter.
Iris: Goddess of the rainbow and one of the most beautiful and fast Dutch sailing vessels.
Le Orla: An Irish Naval Coastal Patrol Vessel, involved in defence of the state, fishery protection, search and rescue, drug interdiction and pollution control.
Canada Dock:
HMS Albion: An amphibious assault ship. One of the largest vessels in the Royal Naval Fleet.
Albert Dock:
Artemis: Originally a whaling vessel, this ship takes her name from the goddess of the hunt.

Liverpool's European Capital of Culture year has gone up a gear with the news it is to replace London as the finale for the Tour of Britain in 2008.
The move from UK to Culture Capital will mean Britain's biggest bike race will finish outside London for the first time.
Liverpool's honour to stage the tours showpiece event in 08 is part of a three-year deal between the Liverpool Culture Company and the tour organisers - and will be a major highlight of the city's Capital of Culture sports strategy.
As part of the deal announced today, to launch this year's National Cycle Week, the city will stage the end of the Northwest stage this year on Wednesday, August 30. In 2007 it will host the start of the regional stage during the week of its 800th birthday celebrations.
The Northwest stage of The Tour, which is sponsored by the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA), attracted 55,000 spectators last year with the route starting in Carlisle and ending in Blackpool. This year it will start in Blackpool.
Leader of Liverpool City Council, Councillor Warren Bradley, said: ''Hosting the finale of the Tour of Britain in 2008 is a huge honour. It will give the city great profile and a chance to showcase the renaissance which has been taking place. And with thousands lining the streets, the day is set to be a memorable highlight of our Capital of Culture year.''
As part of the deal, Liverpool is seeking to build a whole host of events and activities to encourage more local people to take to their bikes.
The 2006 Tour of Britain Route:
* Stage 1 - Scotland
* Glasgow to Castle Douglas 160km
* Stage 2 - Northwest
* Blackpool to Liverpool 152km
* Stage 3 - Yorkshire
* Route to be announced 160km
* Stage 4 - West Midlands
* Wolverhampton to Birmingham 120km
* Stage 5 - Southeast
* Rochester to Canterbury 152km
* Stage 6 - London
* Greenwich to The Mall 80km

Help brighten up your city
PUBS, clubs, restaurants, hospitals and shops are being encouraged to join the city's residents and take part in this year's North West in Bloom awards.
Organisers hope that by helping spruce-up commercial gardens, Liverpool can win its bid to host the North West in Bloom awards in our Capital of Culture year - 2008.
Last year the city's seven neighbourhood areas all entered - with stunning results. Now there have been a record number of entries and council staff along with Enterprise-Liverpool are working with residents to show off the city in its best light.
Councillor Marilyn Fielding, Liverpool's executive member for neighbourhood services, said: "Residents have really taken to the idea and our neighbourhood staff are working with them to make sure our streets are as pleasant as they possibly can be. If owners of commercial businesses also take it on board then our city will look even more stunning than normal.
"From begonias in Broadgreen to freesias in Fazakerley and dahlias in Dingle - the city will be awash with vibrant colourful displays."
North West in Bloom judges will visit scores of sites in Liverpool in July. Among them will be Lister Crescent in Fairfield where residents and council staff maintain a beautiful well-used central garden overlooked by all the homes, which won best Small Neighbourhood category last year. And Woolton Village which last year won the Best Large Village category after beating off strong competition from Port Sunlight and Pilling.
North West in Bloom introduced a 'neighbourhood' category to their competition in 2005. Liverpool City Council worked with Residents to enter 13 gardens. Each of these 13 entrants received an award ranging from an 'Improvement' Award up to the highest award for the North West - the Best Neighbourhood for the North West Region
If you have, or are planning to make the best of an outdoor shared space, regardless of its size, contact Karen Cox, 1st Floor Millennium House, Victoria Street, Liverpool or ring 233- 3018
The council would particularly like to hear from anyone who has a gated alley and would like help in turning it into a neighbourhood garden. The City will provide support to anyone wishing to enter the competition.
Five of Alder Hey's bravest children are to lift the FA and European Cup on a dream tour of Anfield with Liverpool legend Phil Thompson and tennis ace Goran Ivanisevic.
The special sports tour, scheduled for Thursday 15 June, has been arranged by Northern Vision, organisers of the TFS-ICAP 2006 Liverpool International Tennis Tournament.
After Anfield the children will be chauffer driven to Calderstones Park where they and their parents will be treated to a VIP day at the tournament - which starts today Tuesday 13 June - with full corporate hospitality in the Players Lounge and centre court tickets.
At the end of the day they will be presented with signed tennis memorabilia by Goran Ivanisevic and a drawing kit.
The tour has been arranged as the Alder Hey Imagine Appeal, as well as The Radio Merseyside Charitable Trust, is to be the official 2006 Tournament charity.
The Imagine Appeal will be the primary charity, but Wednesday 14 June will be dedicated to The Radio Merseyside Charitable Trust.
Ivanisevic, a former Wimbledon Champion and 2005 Davis Cup winner, is one of the star attractions at the 2006 Liverpool International Tennis Tournament, which runs from 13th - 18th June.
He will be joined by legends such as Pat Cash, Ilie Nastase and Mansour Bahrami as well as ATP players from America, Argentina, Croatia, Norway and Belgium - inlcudign top seed for the men's tournament - Xavier Malisse.
Chris Done, Imagine Appeal Manager said, "We are delighted to have been chosen as one of the beneficiaries of this prestigious event. It's a great opportunity to raise vitally needed funds to support the pioneering work of Europe's largest children's hospital.
''This special sports day is a great idea to get some of our patients involved who often have to spend a lot of time in hospital - it's a fantastic treat for them!"
There are a number of activities planned for the week including an auction on Ladies Day, Friday 16th June, where people can win an England shirt personalised by Wayne Rooney.
Anders Borg, Tournament Director, said: "We are delighted to be working with the Imagine Appeal and supporting the Radio Merseyside Charitable Trust.
''The aim of the tournament is to encourage children to socialise and get involved in sport, so a children's charity is a natural partner for us."
Extended to six days to accommodate a new WTA ladies event - the TFS-ICAP 2006 Liverpool International is now the biggest grass court exhibition tournament in England.
Supported by Liverpool city council and Liverpool Culture Company, it is also one of the major events of the city's European Capital of Culture Sports Strategy.

COSMOPOLITAN LIVERPOOL
still the world in one city?
Wednesday 19th July 6pm - 8pm
Princes Road Synagogue (corner of Selbourne St L8)
Loyd Grossman in conversation with Professor John Belchem
(editor of Liverpool 800 - Culture, Character and History)
The final event in this series of Liverpool 800 'conversations' takes place in the glorious surroundings of the Princes Road Synagogue; one of the outstanding places of Jewish worship in the world.
Loyd's guest is Professor John Belchem who is widely recognised as a leading expert on the cosmopolitan history of Liverpool and who has written widely on the subject. His much praised work 'Merseypride - essays on Liverpool exceptionalism' has recently been re-printed and has again won widespread praise from the critics.
As we celebrate our Capital of Culture status and yet reflect on the horror of Anthony Walker's murder, it is an appropriate moment to think about our city's cosmopolitan past and it's cultural future.
Liverpool was once undoubtedly 'the world in one city' and was hailed as 'Europe's New York', but it has become one of Europe's least ethnically and culturally varied cities. How did this happen, what does it mean for contemporary Liverpool and how will it impact upon the future of our city?
There is plenty of room for everyone in the synagogue, but entrance is on a first come first served basis with no reservations and no tickets.
Asking an awful lot for a 6 month contract, everything from Autocad to stage management, I suppose they have to.

The Liverpool Culture Company is appealing to the region's organisations to make this year's 20/08 day celebrations the best yet.
Each year on 20 August - 20/08 - groups, organisations, and businesses across the region are encouraged to celebrate Liverpool's Capital of Culture success by making an 'offer' for the day.
20/08 has been a highlight of Liverpool's cultural calendar since 2003, when the National Wildflower Centre decided to provide free entrance on 20 August - 20/08 - to mark Liverpool's Capital of Culture success. The Liverpool Culture Company decided to extend this idea and establish 20/08 as a yearly opportunity to celebrate the rich cultural life of the city.
Last year's offers spanned the complete cultural spectrum - including free judo lessons for children, two-for-one dining, tours of historic buildings, hot air balloon rides and water sports tuition. From sports centres to swish city centre hotels, the whole region came together to give people a taste of Liverpool culture.
Groups, businesses, or organisations interested in putting on a special event or offering discounts on 20/08 this year just need to sign-up online by completing the 20/08 form.
Details of all offers will appear on www.liverpool08.com and in a 20/08 day brochure, which is distributed to venues across the region.
The deadline for offers is Friday 14 July 2006 so act now and help celebrate on 20/08!
For further information contact Catherine O'Brien on 0151 233 4399 or e-mail catherine.obrien@liverpool.gov.uk.
I enjoyed the Lord Mayor's Parade on Saturday afternoon, beautiful weather, a big crowd and some very good carnival style floats on display. I even got a bit sun-burned.
I have uploaded several photos onto flickr.com, take a look.
Also, I just discovered there is an official website for the Lord Mayors Parade: www.llmp.org.uk
Midsummer Dreams
A celebration of creative health and well being. An opportunity to renew existing friendships and make new ones across the health and creative sectors in a friendly and interactive setting.

This is an event for people working or being cared for in health, social care and non-statutory settings to meet with people from arts, creative and cultural areas of work.
Creative health includes for example: the use of the arts, links with culture and heritage (such as museums, theatres, art galleries, orchestra and choirs, cinema and libraries), local, seasonal and nurturing food, creative design and use of the environment in care settings, comedy and laughter - in order to promote, enhance and maintain health and well being.
Please drop in to see exhibits, performance, join a workshop and share some healthy and gorgeous food. You will be able to enjoy music and dance, write and share a poem, benefit from a de-stressing hand massage and take a reflective walk along a labyrinth.
The event will also provide an opportunity to launch a creative health network in Liverpool.
The event is organised by Wild Woman, supported and funded by the Liverpool Culture Company and created by a group collaboration between representatives from the NHS, Liverpool City Council, Arts Groups, Patient Forums and Representatives and Liverpool Culture Company.
