Viewing: 6 December 18:00 – 20:00
Over the last thirty one years Peter Dover has been primarily concerned with landscape and the environment; natural and manmade. A geological fascination with landscape, its erosion and industrial transformative processes translated through print techniques is evident throughout the work. In particular he continues to explore land at the margins of water as well as examining the margins between nature and humanity, ensuring a consistency that is underpinned with enquiry and experimentation.
Dover’s practice is an on-going enquiry into the perceived dichotomous human relationship with landscape; the opposition of the romantic tradition of landscape art, found within conventional practices of representation, to that oriented towards ascendancy, exploitation recreation and trade particularly present in the coastlines bordering Liverpool Bay. He has also worked with and in the landscapes of Andalusia, Spain and Brittany in France.
This exhibition will attempt to display at least one print for every year since 1980; 31 and counting. The work draws primarily on digital photography, printmaking, found objects, wood skills, text, collage and bookbinding.
