Stations of the Cross / The Empty Tomb
By Ghislaine Howard
Until March 30 2008
The Empty Tomb painting will be the culmination of Stations of the Cross series which was made for the Cathedral in 2000 and has been touring British cathedrals since, returning to Liverpool every two years.
The inspiration for the composition is derived partly from drawings made of my late father’s time in hospital, memories of Holbein’s Dead Christ and observations of city doorways where the blankets used by rough sleepers lie discarded. The figures that rested there are gone, their brief sojourn marked only by the fall of the blankets.
