Paid Opportunity for Female Artists, 16 days of street art action

Deadline: 5pm on Thursday 3rd September

We are very proud to announce that 16 days of street art action is back with this year’s action ‘Pillars of the community’ supported using public funding by Arts Council England.

16 days of street art action aims to use the global campaign ’16 days of action to end violence against women’ as a platform to promote the work of female artists from across the North West, and to bring to light the little known heroines of past and present.

On each day of the international campaign (25th November – 10th December) a piece of street art depicting a revolutionary woman will be painted or pasted on a selection of pillars/bollards in Manchester City Centre.

We are looking for 3 female artists to create work for the remaining 3 pillars/bollards.

We are particularly interested in applications from BMER & disabled women.

Please contact jolaneme@yahoo.co.uk to discuss or inform us of any access requirements for the putting up of the work.

We have allocated artists £300 each for creating their pieces and artists will need to provide their own materials/paints within this cost.

Artists need to have a-n Artist insurance as a minimum and need to be registered self-employed to receive the payment.

We would like artists to send a proposal of no more than one A4 page about the female icon they want to paint/paste as well as a brief description of how they intend to approach the artwork. Please send 1 or 2 images of previous work or, alternatively 1 image of previous work and a sketch of your proposed piece for the pillar/bollard.

Please send proposals to 16daysofstreetartaction@gmail.com by 5pm on Thursday 3rd September.

Please visit our facebook page which features a full description of the positions available as well as images of the 2013 action ‘Feminism is…’ and an example image of the types of bollards being painted in this years action (If you are not on facebook please email us for more details) https://www.facebook.com/16daysofstreetartaction
