The Art of Sound – a glimpse into the creativity of some Irish composers
Do you want to meet some of Ireland’s new music makers? See what they look like and hear how they sound?
The Art of Sound exhibition, on show as part of the Liverpool Irish Festival, offers the opportunity to do just that. Presented by Ireland’s Contemporary Music Centre, the exhibition will be on display in the Contemporary Urban Centre, Greenland Street, Liverpool from 16 October to 9 November 2008.
This multi-media exhibition looks at new music making from the first idea through to the final performance. The creative process usually takes place behind closed doors, but this exhibition brings it to life through striking photographs of the composers and images of their work.
The Art of Sound features photographer Eugene Langan’s dramatic and perceptive photographs of Irish composers. An audio-guide narrated by Eamonn Lawlor, RTE LyricFM, brings to life the music that is displayed, leading to a truly unique and rich experience for the visitor.
‘This is a fantastic opportunity for the people of Liverpool to make a connection with Irish composers and get a taste of the new music scene in Ireland’, says Aoife FitzPatrick, Promotion Officer at The Contemporary Music Centre. ‘We’re thrilled to be taking part in the Liverpool Irish Festival, especially this year when Liverpool celebrates its reign as European Capital of Culture.’
The Contemporary Music Centre is Ireland’s national library and promotion agency for new music. The Centre is supported by the Arts Council/An Chomhairle Ealaíon and the Arts Council of Northern Ireland. The Contemporary Music Centre is taking part in the Liverpool Irish Festival with support from Culture Ireland.
Admission to the exhibition is free. For further information please contact Aoife FitzPatrick, Promotion Officer, The Contemporary Music Centre, 19 Fishamble Street, Temple Bar, Dublin 8, telephone +353 (0)1 673 1922 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
