Mercy’s new exhibition will piss all over the last one.
We are going to build on the success of Nov 2004’s first )Bracket THIS( showcase with a brand new concept, featuring artists from the various and varied communities and disciplines across Liverpool, which earned it the title ‘The World in One City’.
The first show consisted of a showcase of as many artists as we could find who were good enough. You might even have been one of them. It was boss, but now the intention is to represent more fully the range of artistic production that exists within Liverpool.
A year in the research stage, )Bracket THIS ( - Going Native features newly commissioned work from: Tim Ellis (as featured in the Manchester Contemporary Art Fair, and The Jerwood Drawing Prize, whose picture fell from the wall at the last exhibition while no-one was there and did’t make a sound); Malini Vivian (a fine art graduate, John Moores University, famous for her fabulous ice sculptures, temporal sculptress); Kathy Wu (doing the signage in Traditional Chinese calligraphy, so you won’t know where you’re at); Nahida Yassin (Palistinian traditional craft, stiching, poetry, mixed media, affecting reportage); Tenzin Yonten (subverting the ideals of the traditional Tibetan Thanka-style paintings, adding perspective)
Plus existing work from over fifteen other artists, from China, England, India, Jamaica, Somalia, Trinidad, Italy, all currently living and working in Liverpool.
