Bluecoat Display Centre 50th Anniversary Series at Various Venues
As part of this year’s 50-year anniversary celebration of the Bluecoat Display Centre, some of Liverpool’s most innovative artists will create installations in the Philharmonic Hall, University of Liverpool’s School of History, the Roald Dahl Blood Centre at the Royal Liverpool Hospital. We are delighted to launch the first in this series with Liverpool Art Prize People’s Choice winner, Elizabeth Willow.
Elizabeth sensitively creates objects, interventions and installations in a variety of media. Her work is often made in response to particular settings and draws on the history, associations and fabric of a place to explore meaning and evoke memory and flights of imagination. She is inspired by folklore and mythology, and by the meetings of the natural world and the city. A defining feature of Elizabeth’s work is her use of found and reclaimed objects and materials, weaving together unwanted and abandoned things, fragments and broken bits; finding in them stories of what they once were and what they could become.
Acting as guest curators, artists are given the opportunity to create installations of their work and to include work they select from Bluecoat Display Centre’s collection that they feel complements their own work.
Exhibitions are in the newly designated display area of the Philharmonic Hall on Hope Street, the display cabinets in the foyer of the University of Liverpool’s School of History, off Abercromby Square, and in the Roald Dahl Blood Centre at the Royal Liverpool Hospital.
