LORDS AND LADIES BRING PRATCHETT MAGIC TO THE GLADSTONE

Comic fantasy writer Terry Pratchett is one of the country’s bestselling authors of all time. Now a stage version of Lords and Ladies – one of his famous Discworld novels – is to be seen on Merseyside.

From Tuesday 22nd to Saturday 24th June, Liverpool’s Network Theatre Company are bringing the piece (adapted by Irana Brown) to the Gladstone Theatre, Port Sunlight – handy for Merseyrail for any Pratchett fans from Liverpool, Chester, Ellesmere Port or Birkenhead and beyond.

The play is directed by Eve Smith – who is the first Liverpool-based student to undertake Doctorate level research into the work of Terry Pratchett. Eve describes Lords and Ladies as “fantasy, full of witches, wizards, glamorous elves (and by the way, glamour isn’t necessarily a good thing) and other odd characters. But at the same time, like most great literature and theatre, it’s always pointing to how we live our lives in the real world. Above all, though, it’s hilariously funny – and you don’t have to be a Pratchett reader to come along and enjoy it.”

This large-cast comedy highlights the range of Network – Liverpool’s busiest community theatre group – following their acclaimed production of the tragedy of Antigone earlier this year, and original work in the Liverpool Irish Festival.

It will be Network’s first appearance at the Gladstone – performances are on the 22 / 23 / 24 June at 7.30pm.
