Polished T Gallery in association with Liverpool Culture Company is presenting a one day workshop with the New York based artist Ben Katchor for emerging graphic and comic strip artists. The day long event will be a unique opportunity to work closely with one of the genre’s most respected names. The chosen participants will be given an assignment set by Ben prior to the workshop which will form the basis of the day.

Ben Katchor:
Born in Brooklyn in 1951, he was a contributor to Art Spiegelman's legendary 'cutting edge' graphics magazine Raw, and his strips Julius Knipl Real Estate Photographer and The Cardboard Valise have been syndicated in alternative papers and magazines around the United States since 1988. He has published three books, Cheap Novelties: The Pleasures of Urban Decay, Julius Knipl Real Estate Photographer: Stories and The Jew Of New York. In April 2000 Julius Knipl and The Beauty Supply District was published, and a documentary film in which Katchor and Knipl are the subjects, was released. The New York Times has referred to Ben Katchor as "the most poetic, deeply layered artist ever to draw a comic strip." He lives in New York City.

Spaces are limited to only 15 places. If you wish to apply for a place please send in a covering letter stating why you would like to attend along with a CV and two examples of your work. Images can be sent as hard copies and as emails but please keep them to the minimum size. Please provide a stamped address envelope if you want your images returned.

The Deep Tub and Other Stories is an evening with Katchor where he will read from an ongoing series of picture stories that appear in Metropolis Magazine on the subject of architecture and design.

Carbon Copy Building:
There will be an opportunity to see Ben Katchor’s work in the production of Bang on the Can’s production Carbon Copy Building which will be on at Liverpool’s Royal Court on the 25th and 26th October, 2006.
