'Rebel Yell' at Liverpool Academy of Arts

brian jonesThe current exhibition at the Liverpool Academy of Arts is by Simon Pritchard and is titled 'Rebel Yell - Bad Boys of Rock n Roll'.
Simon is passionate about the music of the 50's and 60's and this comes across in his paintings which have a lot of vitality. They're basically acrylics on canvas but several have a bit of mixed media. For instance, they are real painted feathers on this picture of Brian Jones, the painting of Marc Bolan has a lot of glitter added and you can't have an image of the Sex Pistols without safety pins can you.
Other Rock n Roll icons include Elvis Presley, The Rollings Stones, The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, Frank Sinatra, Jimi Hendrix and Gene Vincent.
As you can see, the subjects are a bit dated, there's no recent 'bad boys' on show.
Runs until Friday November 18th 2005.
