The Liverpool on the Waterfront events last weekend featured many dance companies performing incredible and thrilling routines. We only saw a few, there was also the Feel Good fair and more wonderful and funny street performers.

Apologies for being nearly a week late posting these pictures. The performance at the Pier Head on Liverpool Waterfront by the Aerial dance company Voala was pretty spectacular. The music and singing were good too.
They performed for about 40 minutes, sometimes 100 feet above our heads and often spinning around like a carousel. Well done to Liverpool City Council and the other agencies involved for bringing these great free shows here.

It’s been an intensive weekend of photographing (and enjoying) events on the Liverpool waterfront. Today, amongst the many other events, there was the Riverpool – Mersey Pirate Muster which included an attempt to break the world record for the most pirates gathered in one place. At this time I don’t know if they succeeded but I know a lot of people enjoyed themselves dressing up for the occasion. Lots of families had a great day out though a few little ones weren’t too happy with the sound of canon-fire as the Pirate battle took place in Canning docks.

A lovely son et lumiere performance by Walk The Plank at Salthouse Dock on Saturday 17 July. ‘A Wave at Picasso’ references the current exhibition at Tate Liverpool, some of his artwork was projected onto a screen and I recognised a few of his quotes that were used in the narrative (plus a bit Lennon’s Imagine thrown in for good measure).
There is another Waterfront event on weekend of 6-8 August 2010

LIVERPOOL AIMS TO CAPTURE PIRATE WORLD RECORD
Q: How many pirates does it take to fill Liverpool’s Albert Dock?
A: An arrrghful lot.
And that’s just what we’ll need on Sunday 18th July 2010 when the 2nd International Mersey Pirate Muster attempts to break the Guinness World Record for largest gathering of pirates in one place.
The record, and yes, it is a real one, was set at Brixham earlier this year, when 1,744 barnaclebacks and scurvydogs descended on the town.
But, just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water, those Buccaneering Bilge Rats from the New World scuppered the celebrating with 2,600 souls squeezed like sardines into the Northern California Pirate Festival, barely a few weeks ago.
So, before that American Ink dries in the ship’s log, and as true gentlemen (and women) of fortune, we’re calling to arms all available pirates – young and old – to join our own Mersey Pirate Navy and reclaim the record, for our own noble maritime city.
To take part you must follow these six simple steps:
Wear a pirate hat or bandana
Wear an eye patch
Carry a cutlass, flag or parrot
Wear a piratey shirt or T shirt
Wear rolled up or raggedy piratey trousers
And finally….. TURN UP!
