Yes, Beatles Day is a really naff idea but at least it got us out with the camera and we spent a lovely afternoon at the Pier Head where the Duck Race took place on the new canal to raise funds for the Claire House Appeal. Before that we saw foolish people abseiling down Liverpool Cathedral and the Liver Building and the Liverpool Ukulele Orchestra performed several Beatles numbers in Zeligs restaurant in Liverpool ONE.
It was nice to see the Pier Head area buzzing again and we’ll be back next weekend for the first of this years ‘On the Waterfront‘ festivals.

A great weekend of activities on the Liverpool waterfront has just ended. Art on the Waterfront is the second in the series of three weekend events during the Summer of 2009.
Many organisations were involved including Liverpool Council (Culture Liverpool), Walk the Plank, NWDA, Merseytravel and as its Art, Liverpool Tate, FACT and NML were very involved.
So the Albert Dock and Pier Head were very busy, lots of family activities, street theatre, painting, lantern making, pavement art and music from Africa Oye.
In the evenings there was Luminocity – an excellent light and sound show at the Pier Head. See the next post for more about that.
Now looking forward to Film on the Waterfront on 25-26 September 2009

The Liverpool Pier Head is looking fantastic now, especially on a sunny, blue-sky day. Of course, its not quite finished but the Museum of Liverpool is almost there, the canal extension looks great and the new Mersey Ferry building has just opened. The picture above was taken from the first floor of the ferry building which houses a Beatles Story shop. As well as the ticket office on the ground floor there’s another shop and a bar / cafe. The building looks better than I expected from the initial plan drawings.
