
The Liverpool Hub Festival is back again this year – and back in Otterspool, 29-30 May 2010 weekend. The graffiti artists will be there in force I’m sure and here’s a call for bands to sign up…

Then why not apply for HUB Festival 2010 and be part of a vibrant event of music, break dancing, bmx, skateboarding, grafitti & extreme sports in which you can perform to 23,000 people!
This year HUB Festival has joined forces with Streetwaves 2010. This will see the city’s brightest, talented and most ready acts battling it out at heats before a panel of industry experts. The winners will get the chance to perform at the festival.
And that’s not all – This year there year there will be opportunities for the successful Streetwaves bands to perform at some of Liverpool’s hottest music events like Sound City in May and Liverpool Music Week in October/November. There will also be the chance to attend a high profile conference with international experts within the industry. Keep logging on for news about more exciting opportunities for applicants.

Liverpool Hope University is pleased to announce a new performance venue for Liverpool.
The Capstone building is Liverpool Hope’s new Centre for Music, Performance and Innovation.
By day it will be home to Creative and Performing Arts students and staff, but by night, it will open its doors to the people of Liverpool who can enjoy shows at Hope Theatre, a space designed specifically to have the best possible acoustic, ideal for classical and contemporary music.
The Capstone, funded with the assistance of the NWDA and the Higher Education Funding Council (HEFCE) will also be one of only three Steinway Schools in the UK. All the pianos in the venue, both for performance and rehearsals, will be Steinways. Flagship among these will be the new Steinway D Concert Grand piano in Hope Theatre, which will be inaugurated by Joanna MacGregor on Friday 26th March.

Winner of the 2009 Royal Philharmonic Society ‘Ensemble’ and ‘Concert Series and Festival’ Music Awards in 2009, Ensemble 10/10 is the acclaimed contemporary ensemble made up of members of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.
10/10 Ensemble programme, devised and conducted by Clark Rundell, features essential 20th-century works alongside premieres by the most talented local and international contemporary composers of today.
All concerts take place in the historical setting of the Cornerstone, Hope University’s creative campus in Everton.

Walker hosts Christmas music afternoon
The Nativity – Sounds and Images from the Renaissance
Saturday 19 December 2009 , 14-16.00
Celebrate a traditional Christmas with the Renaissance Music Group and their music session, The Nativity – Sounds and Images from the Renaissance. This performance brings some of the Christmas music by Orlando Lassus a composer of late Renaissance music who was the most famous and influential musician in Europe at the end of the 16th century. Their performance will be set against the backdrop of some of the depictions of the Christmas story in Renaissance art on display in the Medieval and Renaissance room. There will also be projections on the wall of artworks from The Royal Collection, The British Library British Museum, The National Gallery and the Koninklijke Bibliotheek (Netherlands).
The Musicians Gallery runs until the end of March 2010 and offers visitors the chance to enjoy the magnificent artwork the Walker Art Gallery has on display whilst listening to an eclectic mix of music. The programme will showcase soloists and small ensembles from the pool of local talent as well as professional musicians who maybe be performing in the city in other venues.
Jazz at the Walker still continues, with our resident jazz masters Tony Judge and the Martin Smith Quartets playing alternate Sundays

Liverpool Folk and Roots Festival – 21st to 28th November 2009.
I only just discovered this. Still a couple of good gigs to come and there’s 2 ‘roaming’ exhibitions
A free concert, to which adults are invited if accompanied by children or those of a frivolous disposition. On Saturday 21st November at 2 pm, Ken Johnson, a classical violinist, demon whistler and welder of cow bells, creates the first of the new compositions in which the audience can join in using whatever materials are to hand ….
The Musicians Gallery started in October, 2009 and runs to the end of March 2010, and happens each week between 2-4pm. The programme offers visitors the chance to encounter both the magnificent artwork of the Walker Art Gallery and music which is an eclectic mix but all worth a good listening-to.
The programme, from avante garde to jazz, world, folk & classical, and largely acoustic, is produced by Dave Ellwand to work around the diverse artworks on display in the many different galleries. It’s a chance for soloists, bands, choirs and small ensembles either to showcase their current work or to try out something unusual and challenging, and includes both many from the pool of local talent as well as other professional musicians visiting the city.
