Pool of Light - Liverpool - From late October 2008

Background:
Liverpool’s reputation for imaginative lighting of its landmark buildings is already well known. The successful ‘City of Light’ project, delivered in 2005 and 2006, has seen architectural lighting schemes delivered on 75 landmark buildings in the city centre, and has attracted international attention.

To celebrate the city’s European Capital of Culture, Liverpool Vision, in association with Professional Lighting Design Association, Mersey Waterfront Regional Park and Liverpool City Council have begun work on a lighting spectacle in November 2008.

The ‘Pool of Light’ brings some of the best international lighting designers to the city for a unique community-led project.

The project involves lighting designers with an international reputation, who will work with a small number of local people, students and young professionals to deliver innovative high quality installations. The locations are concentrated around the Baltic Triangle area of the city centre and include Cains Brewery, St James Gardens and Great George Square. There will also be installations on Mersey Ferries and Hamilton Square in Birkenhead.

The scheme will be designed and installed during the last week of October, and left in place for the enjoyment of the public through November.
