Deadline for submissions: 06 September 2007

Young Liverpool Film Night: 11 October 2007

Two young filmmakers are being offered the chance to win a £5000 film commission and the chance to see their work become part of FACT’s (Foundation for Art and Creative Technology) 2008 programme, if they submit their film for the organisation’s Young Liverpool Film Night before the deadline on 06 September.

The top two filmmakers selected by the jury will win prizes funded by First Light Movies that will develop their talent and create a new film, with help and advice from a professional film crew. Their films will then be shown at FACT as part of our artistic programme during Liverpool’s year as European Capital of Culture in 2008.

This is the third annual Young Liverpool Film Night, which provides the opportunity for young Merseyside filmmakers, aged 13 – 19, to show their films on the big screen at FACT. The films submitted are judged, critiqued and finally short-listed by FACT’s Young People’s Forum, which was launched last year to offer support, training and advice to Liverpool’s youngsters who want to get involved in New Media Art.

“It’s really easy to pick up a video camera and have a go… you could be the next big thing. Rebecca Johnson, 18 years old is a member of FACT’s youth forum and on the jury panel.

Last year, there were over 120 entries to the competition, with the ten best selected for screening at FACT, to a sell out audience of 250 people. All genres of films, from horror to romance and music video to documentary, will be accepted.

The deadline for submissions is 6 September 2007.

Filmmakers must be aged 13-19 and based on Merseyside.

Films must be no longer than 10 minutes and made within the last three years.
