The BBC website has a section all about the current Summer exhibition at the Royal Academy.

They are displaying details of 20 first-time exhibitors and inviting people to vote online to select the top 5.

And, oh look, there's a Merseyside artist amongst them, his name is Joe Bampton and he's rather good. Hmm, what to do? It might be a bit unethical for me to urge you to vote for the local artist so I won't do that. I have voted for him myself though. The deadline is midday on June 23 2007
