'Denique' HND Show at The Bridewell

Bill Drummond a.k.a. Penkiln Burn the artist and musician (KLF etc.) opened the Liverpool Community College HND Fine Arts Show at the Bridewell Studios last week. He gave a very entertaining talk about how he got into Liverpool art college and was taught to 'See' rather than just 'Look' and his recent participation in the Liverpool Centre of The Creative Universe exhibition at Tate where the river police stopped him launching these large paper boats into the Mersey as they might be a 'Danger to Shipping'.
A good selection of artwork from this small group.

The Group Denique meaning “last of an era will be the final group of students to receive an HND qualification in Fine Arts from Liverpool Community College, before the course becomes a Foundation Degree in Fine Art from September of 2007.
The Bridewell Studios Gallery was previously used by The HND Fine Arts course leader Geoff Molyneux as a studio space until 1983. A founder member of The Bridewell Studios, Geoff says:
“It’s a strange coincidence that the students are going to be exhibiting in the same room that I used as a studio during the final year of my degree! I was one of the founder members of The Bridewell Studios and I am proud that it continues to provide a resource for artists and art students across Liverpool.
Many of the exhibiting students have been involved with The Bridewell Studios Gallery over the past six months, by attending workshops or working for the gallery on a voluntary basis.
Gallery Coordinator Vanessa Bartlett says “It’s a real privilege for The Bridewell Studios Gallery to host this exhibition, as we value our links with the local community and are always keen to provide opportunities for students and graduates.
Bill Drummond is an artist and musician who played a key part in Liverpool’s art scene during the 1970s. He is most famous for burning 1 million pounds on the Scottish Island of Jura as part of an art project called “Watch the KLF Burn A Million Quid.
