GALLERY INVITES YOUNGSTERS TO JOIN IN GRAFFITI FEST!
Saturday April 14 14-16.00
Artist Andy Fung is inviting Liverpool youngsters to make their mark in the world of art – by taking a hands-on approach to his current exhibition.
The Bridewell Studios Gallery on London Road opposite the Royal Liverpool Hospital is currently staging an exhibition by graffiti inspired artist Andy Fung, who paints directly on to the walls of his exhibition space.
Andy’s work reflects street art and contemporary culture and he is hoping to pass on some of his technique in a learning environment by allowing young people to modify his work with artistic improvisation of their own.
Andy Fung says: “Graffiti is a popular art form among young people and it is really important that they are given opportunities like this to practice it in a suitable environment. It’s much better to see graffiti art adorning the walls of an art gallery than being painted on street corners.
Participants in the two-hour graffiti fest will work together under Andy’s guidance to express their artistic aspirations and let their imaginations off the leash.
The Bridewell Gallery, specialists in hosting exhibitions for emerging and mid career artists, will undergo a major refurbishment immediately after this event.
Gallery Co-ordinator Vanessa Bartlett says new facades will be placed over the existing walls as part of the work.
“This means the work of our young people will be preserved for posterity and become a little piece of Bridewell history, said Vanessa.
