INTRODUCTION:
Arena aims to open up creative communication and dialogue throughout the world’s Liverpool’s to crystallize in a series of events and exhibitions to be held during the Biennial 2008.
Three artists from places around the world that are named Liverpool, will undertake a residency in Arena Studios Liverpool UK. Simultaneously three artists from Arena will fly out to these respective world Liverpools and occupy the studio spaces vacated by the visiting artists. All six artists will undertake a residency for the duration of 1-3 months in each Liverpool and will then return home. After their return they will be given a period of 1-2 months to make an artwork/creative response based on their experiences while on the residency. An exhibition will be held at the start of the 2008 Liverpool Biennial where all 6 participating artists will show their work in Liverpool UK. The resulting exhibition will then tour to each of the participating Liverpools.
A website will be built to provide a platform for communication between all of the project participants and the wider public. It will contain a custom built forum where the participating artists will be asked to record their experiences during the residency and where users can add comments/information and anecdotes about all of the world’s Liverpools.
