Local artist represents Liverpool
Local artist represents Liverpool at prestigious London event.
Liverpool based artist Parabhen Lad, was chosen to demonstrate the wealth of artistic talent in the city at the World Travel Market exhibition this week.
Visit Britain approached city centre art gallery and consultancy dot-art, to find them an artist who could create quick sketches of visitors to their stand at this high profile event, in order to promote the city's Capital of Culture status in 2008.
Parabhen was chosen from a shortlist of talented artists provided by dot-art, as Visit Britain were delighted with her stunning charcoal and pastel sketches, which she was able to complete under strict time constraints.
Staged annually in London, World Travel Market is a must attend, business to business exhibition. It provides a unique opportunity for the whole global travel trade industry to meet, network, negotiate, conduct business and stay abreast with the latest developments in the travel industry.
Anna Maloney, the Liverpool 08 promotions manager for Visit Britain, explains the importance of the event and her reasons for involving Parabhen-
We really wanted to bring Liverpool’s cultural offering alive at WTM this year. To give the world a sample of Liverpool’s talents, we brought Parabhen Lad to London’s Excel to showcase ‘Art in Action’ – portrait sketches that people could then take home as a souvenir from Liverpool! Along with Paul Askew, London Carriage Works Restaurant, cooking up a storm on the Visit Britain stand, Press and Trade at WTM really discovered the ‘Flavours of the North West’. All in all the 08 Highlights launch was a great success.
Lucy Byrne of dot-art was delighted to be asked to contribute to the event-
“dot-art exists to help local artists promote and sell their work, so when Anna asked if we would be able to provide them with an artist to represent Liverpool on a national level, we were in the perfect position to help. Parabhen is a fantastic artist who has been working with us for some time on a number of different projects, so we were very pleased she was chosen for this new and exciting opportunity.
World Travel Market took place at the Excel Centre in London's Docklands from Monday 6th – Thursday 9th November.
