Wrong Love at A Foundation 13/14 Feb 2010 – Details

WRONG-LOVE

Tickets are available for this exciting live art event organised by the good folk at Come Into Land.

Is it pre-valentine, alt-valentine ot anti-valentine?

SATURDAY 13 February 2010, 21.00 – 3.00am at A Foundation
Liverpool’s biggest Independent Live Arts Event of 2010. WRONG LOVE is a night of intimate performances, site-specific installation, audio visual art and live music which will use the banner of an alternative Valentine’s Day celebration to ask questions about romance, sexuality, unconventional love and where art is headed in this new decade.

With over forty individual artistic contributors, WRONG LOVE is the first happening produced by the new live arts event collective LAND and is completely self-supported by three young creative directors in an energetic response to the growing desire for independent, self-made culture.

The event aims to showcase thought-provoking works from local, national and international artists while providing a platform for the live arts to reach a wider audience than ever before.

The night will include a bespoke hour filled with ‘wrong’ love poetry and short story readings from BRICKFACE press, a team of young, independent writers and self-publishers. Three hours of performance will follow, interspersed with heart wrenching ballad and instrumental pieces from young local musicians. The performance segment of the night will end with a surprise for all guests involved to be immediately followed by dancing until Valentine’s Day gets well underway.
This ambitious event is the first in Liverpool that will showcase contemporary artists with an unprecedented interdisciplinary approach.

Up for Arts

up-for-2

upforarts-logo-150We called into Radio Merseyside on Saturday to have a look at the Up For Arts activities. It was busy, people making things from clay, origami, felt, woodturning etc.

All looked very good with plenty of information available about arty things happening in the city.

The woodturning lathe was very popular and that will be there again on Sunday along with a lot of other crafts and artists including the Draw the Line people and some printmakers.

On Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st January 2010 between 11.00 and 16.00, Up For Arts would like to invite you to a free fun filled weekend of arts and crafts for adults at BBC Radio Merseyside’s Performance Space, Hanover Street, Liverpool.

The weekend of arts and crafts tasters is an exciting part of the Up For Arts project; a collaborative venture between Voluntary Arts England and BBC Radio Merseyside which celebrates arts and creativity across the whole of Liverpool.

Sunday 31st January:

Get your hands inky with Liverpool printmakers

Start that winter blanket you’ve been dreaming of or make a pretty corsage with Liverpool crochet group, Purlesque.

Enjoy a casual scribble with ‘Draw the line’, a growing social creative Liverpool group who welcome you to doodle!  A lovely small group who put on social events for all, come and join their square pen round hole project.

A second chance to get turning that wood and take your turn on the lathe.

On both days, there will be an information point offering more details on arts and crafts groups, classes and events running across the whole of Merseyside.

For more information call the A-team on 0151 794 0984 or email ateam@bbc.co.uk

Kandinsky on Stage at LIPA

Kandinsky on Stage at LIPA | Hope Street, Liverpool.

It was fascinating to see this stage set inspired by Kandinsky and amazing when you consider many of the students had never built anything before. That piano actually plays! This is the first year they have opened up to the public, we got there just before it was closing and about to be all thrown out. I hope its an annual event.

The Paul McCartney Auditorium at LIPA was transformed as first year Theatre and Performance Design and Technology students invited people to view their first completed project.

Taking their inspiration from Russian abstract artist Wassily Kandinsky, they created a range of 3D installations and sets for you to examine and explore. The exhibition demonstrates their skills in model making, technical drawing, scenic construction, scene-painting and lighting and gives a fascinating insight in to the creativity and artistry involved in theatre design and technology.

With a first prize of £25,000 (cash prize) and four further prizes of £2,500 each for the runner’s up, this is one of the most illustrious events in the British art world.

The judging will take place throughout 2010 and will result in an exhibition at the Walker Art Gallery from 18 September 2010 to 3 January 2011, forming a central part of the Liverpool Biennial. This year the popular Visitors’ Choice prize will award its winner £2010.

The jurors form a strong team of experience and expertise, with former Royal Academy Exhibitions Secretary Sir Norman Rosenthal joined by contemporary artists Goshka Macuga and Gary Hume, Liverpool-born artist Ged Quinn and painter Alison Watt.

The John Moores Contemporary Painting Prize is an open submission competition available to all UK-based artists working with paint. Previous winners have included David Hockney, Peter Doig and Michael Raedecker.
