C.U.T.S. Workshops November/December 2009

Just to let you know what we have planned for November and December at CUTS…

Due to it’s popularity during our Masterclass Sessions last month, we’re running the Devore/Burnout screen print workshop with Christine Toh again on the 21st of November ( http://www.christinetoh.co.uk/ ). This should become one of our more regular workshops and we’re hoping to run it once every couple of months.

In response to all the enquiries we receive about garment workshops, we’re pleased to welcome onboard Sara Li-Chou Han of Trashed Couture ( http://www.trashedcouture.com/), who will be running a fantastic new workshop showing you how to recycle an old pair of jeans into a funky skirt.

We will also be running Screen Printing, Machine Embroidery and Bookbinding Workshops, please scroll down this posting for full details.

UV-exposure Screen Print with Tomo
Learn to use the CUTS exposure unit to develop screens to print detailed images and text. This workshop inducts you into the space so you can come back and hire the space to develop your projects. £25 including materials.

Devore/ Burn-Out Screen Printing with Christine Toh
Textile Artist Christine Toh gives an introduction to Devore, a method  that dissolves the top layer of the fibre in velvet or specialist linen to turn your printed or painted area into translucency or relief finishes. Ideal for those who have previously done our UV screen-print induction, but also suitable for those without screen print experience. £45 including materials.

Free-machine Embroidery and Dissolving Fabric with Beccy Williams
An insight into Free-Machine Embroidery techniques that can be used to ‘draw’ in stitch directly onto fabric or in conjunction with with dissolving fabric, a film which disappears in cold water leaving only the network of stitches behind, allowing you to create beautiful lacey 3-D objects and jewellery. £45 including materials.

Recycled Garment workshop with Trashed Couture
Create a funky denim skirt from an old pair of jeans, whether you want a mini, maxi or mid length skirt, Sara Li-Chou Han from local recycled clothing label Trashed Couture shows you the basics and a few tips on how to customise your skirt to make it truly individual. Basic sewing skills are required. £25 bring your own jeans + extra fabric, or pay an additional £5 and have materials included.

Bookbinding with Beccy Williams
Learn traditional hard-back binding techniques to make your own sketchbooks , notebooks , journals and photo albums. Can be used with virgin (new) materials or to recycle misprinted paper and window envelopes. £20.
