Liverpool Twestival (Twitter Festival) 12 Feb 09

I haven’t started twittering yet but I’m sure I’ll get sucked in eventually.

If you don’t know, Twitter is a web site that allows users to answer the question “What are you doing” and follow other users who seem interesting, or have related professions and hobbies. Networks build up quickly and twittering (being active on Twitter) takes very little time, as you are limited to 140 characters!

It can be quite useful but unfortunately there’s a lot of useless messages like ‘I’m standing at the bus stop and its freezing cold’ or ‘I just saw Stephen Fry going into Marks and Spencers’.

Anyway, on Thursday 12 February 2009 there’s a global twitter festival. Twitter + festival = Twestival

It sounds like fun, they need more things for the auction and sponsorship. Tickets are available and free – donations on the door preferred.

Over 130 cities worldwide will be hosting a twestival at the same time, on the same day making it a truly global event.

Liverpool Twestival is taking place on Thursday 12th Feb at Leaf Tea Shop and Bar from 18.00 to late. Bands confirmed so far are The Lapis, Sparkwood & 21 and Pencil In and a grand prize auction.

The organisers are looking for donations of prizes to the auction, as well as sponsorship for the event, which is raising money solely for Charity:Water, a global charity that aims to get clean water to people across the globe, the fundraising target is £2000 which will buy a well.

See website for more details, T Shirts, Tickets and Donations…

Arena Art Auction – Blogger Fails to Buy

A very crowded Leaf Cafe last night for the annual art auction by Arena Studios. Its was great fun with auctioneer Paul O’Keeffe as good as ever, making himself heard despite the rather noisey crowd and extracting good prices. A few artworks failed to reach their reserve prices.

We tried really hard to buy a lovely work by Roisin Hyland but dropped out when the price reached £200. First time ever I’ve come away from an arena auction empty-handed.

Pictured below is our friend Neil who decided to make the initial bid of £10 on every single lot and eventually ended up with 1 picture.

Jason forgot to smile for the camera. We went to the viewing of ‘Altered Communication‘ this evening, its an interesting, mix of graphics, mixed media and painting responding to the word ‘communication’.

Its great that Liverpool artists works will be going over to California in exchange – spread the word we say.

Nick Sykes Features in Sense Magazine

Liverpool artists are everywhere these days. There we are in the Royal Bank of Scotland waiting to pay in the vast amounts of pennies we earn from running this website, we pick up a copy of their magazine ‘Sense – The Magazine That Helps You Get The Most Out Of Your Money’ (RBS are obviously experts at this) and there’s a full page spread on local artist (and art handling technician) Nick Sykes.

Good for him, he reminds us that his patrons include desginer Paul Smith, chef Raymond Blanc and author Alan Bleasdale. Also includes a link to his website, which is one of my creations – I suppose I’ll have to update it now!
