I’m Back!

Been in a state of panic for the last few hours as the website was down. The domain name had expired due to some admin confusion – not my fault honest! First bit of stress I’ve had for about 3 years. Not nice is it? And all over an art website which is only supposed to be a hobby.
Anyway, all sorted now. I had so much to write about too, I wonder what it was. Did anyone miss me?

SEEKING THE BARDS OF BIRKENHEAD

Potential poets are sought on the Mersey Ferry, at a stall on Birkenhead Market, from the YMCA, aboard the Age Concern bus, and in local schools and youth clubs. The Poem for Birkenhead was the idea of members of the Lauries Centre in Central Birkenhead who after seeing the Poem for Liverpool written by Roger McGough and sponsored by Fivearts cities, lobbied to have their own. Birkenhead boy Paul Grady (aka Lily Savage) will open the Lauries Centre in October by reading the Poem for Birkenhead.

Fivearts cities agreed to commission this poem and are delighted to be working once again with Workers Education Association (WEA) to deliver this community-based project. Between Monday 5 to Friday 16 September, award winning poet Jim Bennett will invite people to write one liners on “Birkenhead is…

Epstein Busts at the Walker

man of aran by Epstein
I have to admit I’m not greatly impressed by the five portrait busts by Jacob Epstein which are on temporary display in the Walker. I suppose they’re meant to be a bit abstract which does make slightly more interesting than the average true-to-life busts. But poor old ‘Man of Aran (Tiger King)’ for example seems to have a particularly badly fitted permed wig stuck on top of his head. The other efforts are equally uncomplimentary.
Maybe I should go to the talk next Sunday to gain a better understanding.
