Bird House – Joel Bird

joelbird_barninwoods-100‘Pennsylvania’ by Joel Bird at the NEW Bird House Gallery in Lark Lane.
Exhibition: 7 – 31 May 2010

Liverpool born artist and sculptor, Joel Bird returns from his latest exhibition in America with a collection of work inspired by his travels across Pennsylvania. The work focuses on the harmony of the natural world through sympathetic and charming depictions of landscapes and peoples’ interaction with their environment. The exhibition will include large scale canvasses commissioned for New York Fashion Magazine.

Also included in the Exhibit are Joel Bird’s ‘Bird’ sculptures all of which are associated both with The British Isles and with Pennsylvania. ‘I use rock formations as an inspiration. I take time with both my sculptures and my paintings; I want my sculptures to have been ‘eroded’ naturally and my paintings to ‘grow’ slowly and steadily. In this way time becomes a part of them, like slow grown wood or evolution, they are stronger creative pieces.’

The collection will be shown at a new art location, Joel Bird is converting the Grocers on Lark Lane into a Gallery space for three months, May to August. The gallery will include work from Joel Bird’s favourite local artists who share Joel’s outlook on art, including Beccy Williams who has recently been invited to Japan exhibiting her shoe gazer embroidered jewelry from found objects.

Joel Bird Commented ‘The Gallery is ideally placed to expresses my belief that art represents the indestructible link between working creative humans and nature. We are hoping to change the collection every two weeks; we want the shows to be about both ideas and the skill of the artist. Humans often possess a natural talent for concept or for craft, but not always for both, this is what I am interested in, representational aesthetics.’
