'Making Connections' - Call to Participate

11 Wolstenholme Square

"Making Connections"

An event of 2 weeks duration allowing artists based in Liverpool and Manchester to meet, share ideas, work together and put on an exhibition of their work for the final week of this year’s Liverpool Biennial.

We hope the event might be the starting point for future collaborations or at least provide a few sparks for ideas for future independent work for those who participate.

How the project develops will be largely dependent on the participants themselves.

At this point we envisage that the work shown in the second week will be existing work, the first week being a setup period when artists can find connections and decide which work shares common themes and how this can be visualised and articulated in the set up of the show. It would also be possible for work developed in this first week to be shown in the exhibition.

Time commitment will be very flexible. After the initial meeting, the building will be open from 4.30pm to 9.30pm each day for the entire week for artists to create and/or set up their work. Exhibition to open on Saturday 18th November. The opening hours will be 12pm to 6pm daily (closed Monday and Tuesday). Each participant will be expected to do one days invigilation. Instead of an opening event there will be a big closing party on Saturday 25th November starting at 6.30pm.

All those interested need to meet at 11 Wolstenholme Square (opposite Cream) at 7.30pm on 11th November (the building will be open from 7pm). Everybody who wishes to participate will without exception be given the opportunity to do so. Each participant will need to bring a piece of work with them or, if the work is too large, colour A4 printouts of the work. Participants are welcome to bring a variety of their work and select a piece according to their reaction to the space and the other work proposed.

Two tvs and dvds will be available on the 11th Nov to view video pieces, but participants will have to provide all necessary equipment for the exhibition itself.

Although the building is fairly large, extending to 3 floors, anybody with particularly large 3d work may need to display documentation of the work rather than the work itself.

NOTE: The Art Organisation will be providing third party public liability insurance for the event but participants are responsible for the insurance of their own work or equipment where appropriate. Strictly no projectors or laptops to be left in the building overnight.

It would be useful, though not essential, if anyone intending to come on the 11 Nov sent an email expressing an interest (or asking questions) to:

Mercy - 'Bracket This' looking for Helpers

From our friends at Mercy...

)BRACKET THIS 3( - Thursday 2 November-Sunday 26 November
---
The third instalment of our successful exhibition programme kicks off, as with the first, at the climax of the Liverpool Biennial. It’s at the Arena Gallery on Duke Street again, all nicely refurbished. Expect the usual mix of cross-cultural and cross-discipline artworks commissioned to reflect on the artists sense of place, plus regular late-night parties and performances by bands, poets, DJs and the rest. Expect to get spammed like no other once it nears...
**WORK PLACEMENTS***
We need people for work placements as exhibition assistants, starting from 25 October til the exhibition end. Duties would include help with invigilation & point of contact with visitors, installation, marketing & promotion, and a whole host of lovely menial tasks. We need 1/2 people per day (expenses covered), so if you are interested it would be really helpful if you could give us an idea of what days you are available when you contact us. Give us an email about it, it’d be a really good experience to have a hand in a very busy and successful show in an international Biennial, whooo!

Also

WE want more writers for 2007’s run: at the moment we’re beating illustrators off with giant pencils from Art Attack, but having to beg for writing. Don’t demean us, send us some samples so we can enlarge our roster for next year. If we get our Arts Council funding then we’ll even pay you all!

The Projection gallery are returning to the Liverpool biennial, as part of the independents section, creating a dynamic mix of film, lens based media and interactive performance.

Their aim is to produce a space that investigates the diversity of the medium, from grass roots to established film makers/artists.

Daydream
An invitation to be on the silver screen

We would like to invite you to be in a major film for Liverpool entitled Daydream. We are Christine Molloy and Joe Lawlor, an artist/filmmakers group known as Desperate Optimists www.desperateoptimists.com

The film is a large-scale community film about Liverpool and will explore ideas and feelings of a city in transition. The cast will almost entirely be made up of local communities and people involved in the 80 Days Around the City projects and we would like as many of these people as possible to be in the film. The film will be 30mins in length and will be filmed in 5 key locations in the city including St George’s Hall. All participants must be over 18 years of age and, on arrival, will be asked to sign a release form.

We are sure the day will be fun and participants will be able to see up close how a 35mm film is shot. All participants will be invited to the launch of the film as part of ‘Made In Liverpool’ in October at Cineworld on Edge Lane and have their own personal copy of the film on DVD. In addition, the film will be shown in different areas of Liverpool during the Liverpool Biennial.
