Liverpool artwork of the week No. 7. ‘Light, only Light’ by Jun Takita in ‘sk-interfaces’ at FACT February 1 to March 30 2008
A magnetic resonance scan of the artist’s brain has been 3-dimensionally printed and its surface covered with transgenic, bioluminescent moss presenting us with a plant that emits light.
Takita’s work is part of the ‘sk-interfaces’ exhibition at FACT, a multi-disciplinary exhibition featuring work from 17 international artists explores, materially and metaphorically, the concept of skin as a technological interface.
Designer hymens by artist Julia Reodica, a coat made of blended skin cultures by legendary French artist ORLAN, biotechnological ‘leather’ growing in the galleries by the Tissue Culture & Art Project, are some of the projects that reflect the curatorial concept of Jens Hauser in an approach involving science, politics, philosophy and architecture with its social implications.
