Artwork of the Week – Maxine Shisselle

Liverpool artwork of the week 2010-15. ‘Sculpture Pool’ collage by Maxine Shisselle in ‘Outside In’ at Liverpool Academy of Arts 7-16 April 2010

Yes, it’s another picture of the Liverpool waterfront but in this version all the buildings are created using images of sculptures that you can find around Liverpool, hence the title Sculpture Pool.

Maxine has also created one called Talent Pool featuring the faces of many of Liverpool’s talented people. Also her paintings, although often depicting familiar local scenes, use refreshingly different techniques.

In April we welcome Merseyside artist Maxine Shisselle. Maxine started painting at a very early age, moving on at 13 to Liverpool Art High School and eventually to a Fine Art Degree at Wirral Metropolitan College. For this exhibition she has focused on figurative and impressionistic works, many of them with Merseyside subjects.

In her own words:-
“I find my inspiration in the familiar, everyday images that surround our environment and landscape and become completely absorbed with their colour, textures and design.”
