Art for Macmillan Christmas Arts Festival

Macmillan Art Centre, 49 Tulketh Street, Southport

27 October – 30 December

10.00 – 18.00 Monday – Saturday, 11.00 – 17.00 Sunday. Additional performances selected evenings 19.30 – 21.30

Featuring art demonstrations by well known local artists, sculptors, craft makers and designers. There will also be poetry readings by accomplished local poets and a host of music and dance performances. Entry to events will be by donation to Macmillan Cancer Support and drinks including tea and coffee will be served.

The Arts Festival will also include an exhibition by fifteen artists from around Merseyside and West Lancashire and comprises a number of other exhibition venues around Southport such as TDF Café in Marble Place Shopping Arcade; Monument Café Bar at 405 Lord Street and the latest venue: The Kitchen Sink showroom at 111b Eastbank Street. Entry to the exhibitions is free.

This stream of activities promises to be a fun filled experience with something for everyone in the run up to Christmas. Art For Macmillan has now raised £3, 226 and hopes to make it to the £5,000 mark before the end of the year. Music by Fritz and Friends and personalised Christmas, New Year and Birthday posters painted by professional Ken Bullock will be raffled off.  Entry to the festival launch is free.

Macmillan Arts Centre:

Watercolour Design Demonstrations given by Irene Wilson every Wednesday from  31 October – 5 December. 12.00 onwards.  Free entry

Painting demonstration by Anton Dolders, local artist in 3 parts – Thursday 1, 8, 22 November 19.30 – 21.30. Entry £2.50 per session

Art In The Kitchen Sink:

An art exhibition in The Kitchen Sink showroom, 111b Eastbank Street PR8 1DG with clarinet and saxophone played by Fritz Steiger and guitar played by John Chatterton – 15 November 19.30 – 21.30. Free entry

Sculpture Demonstration by Kurt Dereli who studied sculpture at the Florence Institute in Italy. A two part show 16 and 30 November 19.30 – 21.00. Entry £4 per session. Kurt will also be available to draw portraits in Macmillan Art Centre from 14.00 – 16.00 on those dates.

A Night of Music and Merriment with music from Fritz and Friends playing clarinet, sax and accordion. 17 November. Entry £1.50

Fringe Poets Phil McNulty and Steve Beattie introduce a night of poetry including open mic 19 November and 17 December 19.30 – 21.30.  Entry: £1

The Vocal Talent of Marianne Price – 24 November and 6 December 15.00 – 16.00. Entry free.

Wood Whittling with John Mercer. John will demonstrate his skills at animal and bird carving. 27 November, 14.00 – 16.00. Free entry.

Art tuition by Anton Dolders. Areas covered include drawing in pencil, charcoal and pastel. Painting in oils and acrylics. Bring your own materials to work with. Tuesdays 6, 13, 20, 27 November and 4, 11 and 18 December. 19.00 – 20.30. Cost: £7.50.

Warercolour demonstration by expert John West – 9 December 19.30-21.00. Entry £2.50.

Sign and Poster Design Demonstration with Ken Bullock – 7 December 19.30 – 21.00  Entry: £2.50. Ken will also be designing personalised birthday and Christmas posters Macmillan Art Centre  on 7 December 12.00 – 16.00 and on various other dates TBC.

Figurative Drawing Demonstration by Phil Garret, Royal College of Art – 14 December 19.30 – 21.00. Entry: £5.

Painting Demonstration with Anton Dolders – Saturday 1, 15 and 22 December, 19.30 – 21.30.  Entry: £2.50 per session

Marianne Price will be joined by carol singers and invites people to sing along 15 December from 15.00. Entry: Free.

Music and Dance featuring excellent acoustic guitarists John Chatterton, Graham Chambers and Dogstar Rose and the superb talents of Belinda Grantham’s dance troupe: “To Be Performed” – 21 December  19.30 – 21.00.  Entry: £3.50.
